Space Makers - Spiritual Contemplation

At our school, spiritual contemplation is enriched through the Space Makers programme, a resource developed by the Diocese of Oxford for schools and churches. Accessible to pupils of all faiths and worldviews, Space Makers introduces five contemplative practices inspired by the ancient wisdom of the Christian tradition, helping children to pause, reflect and navigate the world around them with greater calm and confidence.

In a time when many young people experience increasing pressures from climate anxiety, screen time and social media, these opportunities for stillness and reflection are more important than ever. Through quiet reflection, creativity, discussion and mindful moments, pupils are encouraged to explore awe, wonder, gratitude and deeper questions about life in a safe and supportive environment. Much like the practice of mindfulness, the contemplative traditions at the heart of Space Makers help to nurture wellbeing, empathy and a strong sense of belonging, supporting the spiritual growth of every child.
