  • Meet the Governors

'Governance is excellent. Governors meticulously ensure that pupils have all their needs fully met and no one is left behind. They champion the school because they assiduously check it is as good as it can be.' Ofsted, 2016

On this page you will find details of the names and terms of office for all of our Governors, together with details of their category of Governor, positions of responsibility and details of any additional committees that they serve on. We have also included details of the business and financial interests of each Governor and information about any Governance role they play in other schools, as well as a full breakdown of the structure and responsibilities of the governing body of our school and its committees.  All governors sit on the local governing committee (LGC), each governor then sits on either the resources or quality of education committees.  The pay committee meets once per year and is usually made up of some or all of the resources committee.

I am proud to have been Headteacher at Buckland School since September 2024, after serving as Deputy Headteacher here since 2021. With over 20 years of experience in education, I am passionate about creating a nurturing, inclusive and inspiring learning environment for every child. Alongside my role as Headteacher, I am also the Designated Safeguarding Lead and have responsibility for Pupil Premium, Attendance, English, Reading, RE and Worship, Science, and as the lead for our Rights Respecting Schools work. My vision for Buckland is rooted in the belief that strong, caring relationships are at the heart of all great learning. I believe that love, kindness and connection must come first – when children feel safe, valued and understood, they can truly flourish. Our school is a warm, inclusive and ambitious community where high-quality teaching, curiosity and creativity go hand in hand. We nurture the whole child – academically, socially and emotionally – through a rich and diverse curriculum that celebrates individuality and encourages every pupil to find their voice.

My name is Lucy Gildersleeves and I am one of three Foundation Governors appointed by the Church to the school’s governing committee because Buckland School is a Church of England primary school.

My professional background was as a librarian and in training future children’s and schools’ librarians, where my specialism was in evaluation of outcomes and impact.  I am an authorised lay member of the local benefice ministry team.  I have a particular interest in the place of creative reflection and prayer within the development of children’s spiritual awareness and wellbeing.  I became involved with Buckland School through helping with the Prayer Space, and then as Governor because I was inspired by the strong sense of the school’s ‘whole family together’ commitment to its vision and values.

I am a member of the Quality of Education sub-committee and am subject link governor for PHSE and for science.

I also have a supporting subject link role for RE.
