Safeguarding

Our Commitment to Safeguarding

Buckland School places the utmost importance on keeping its pupils safe. All adults working in the school, whether in a paid or voluntary capacity, have undergone the appropriate DBS checks. All staff receive safeguarding training, including child protection training, to ensure they understand their responsibilities in keeping children safe.

Staff recognise the importance of remaining vigilant and are expected to be observant of children’s wellbeing at all times. Any concerns about a child’s welfare are reported promptly to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) in accordance with the school’s safeguarding and child protection procedures.

Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility at Buckland School, and we are committed to providing a safe, supportive and secure environment where every child feels valued and protected.

Governance and Statutory Responsibilities

The Governing Body takes seriously its responsibility under Section 11 of the Children Act and the duties set out in Working Together to Safeguard Children to safeguard and promote the welfare of children. Governors work with school leaders and other agencies to ensure that effective arrangements are in place within the school to identify, support and protect children who are suffering harm or who may be at risk of harm.

The school follows the statutory guidance set out in Keeping Children Safe in Education. Our safeguarding and child protection policies are reviewed regularly to ensure they reflect current legislation and best practice.

Reporting a Safeguarding Concern

Safeguarding is the responsibility of the whole community – staff, governors, parents, volunteers and the wider community.

If you have a concern about the safety or welfare of a child, please contact the school immediately (01367-870236) and ask to speak to a member of the Designated Safeguarding Team.

If you are unable to speak to a member of our Designated Safeguarding Team and have a safeguarding concern, please contact the Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) directly, who will be able to advise you.

If you have a concern about a child, please call MASH on 0345 050 7666.

If you believe a child is at immediate risk of harm, please contact the police.

E-Safety in the Curriculum

ICT and online resources are increasingly used across the curriculum. We believe it is essential for E-Safety guidance to be given to the pupils on a regular and meaningful basis. E-Safety is embedded within our curriculum and we continually look for new opportunities to promote E-Safety. Educating pupils about the online risks that they may encounter outside school is delivered as part of the taught curriculum and also informally when opportunities arise.

Pupils are taught about being safe online including the use of privacy settings, copyright, respecting other people’s information, safe use of images and other important areas through discussion, modelling and appropriate activities.

Pupils are aware of the impact of Cyber bullying and know how to seek help if they are affected by any form of online bullying. Pupils are also aware of where to seek advice or help if they experience problems when using the internet and related technologies; i.e. parent/ carer, teacher/ trusted staff member.
