Y1 Forest School 2026

29/03/26

Dear Y1 parents,

This term with our fantastic Y1, the main idea has been that plans are made to be changed! :)

The children loved making potions. It was initially planned as just one session, but they were so disappointed when it ended that we decided to add another. Child-led learning at its best!

I had also planned to set up the hammock in the allotment, so the children could enjoy some restful time in the sunshine. However, they created a climbing platform around the trees used for the hammock. Democracy in action, we discussed it together and decided to keep the climbing platform for one more session, and next time we will take it down to enjoy the hammock.

During the sessions, kind words have been heard, and patience and teamwork have been clearly demonstrated. The children also discovered some charcoal from a previous fire, and a few of them enjoyed drawing and writing with this different “pencil.”

The only regret for our Year 1 children this term is that the sessions always feel too short! I have heard that the frogspawn is back in the pond, so if all goes well, we will go and visit it next term.

A huge thank you to Gemma for supporting us next term, and to all the parents who are always willing to step in whenever we need help. We truly appreciate it.

The Forest School Team

20/02/26

Dear Year 1 Parents,

Year 1 had a wonderful time at Forest School last term. Our focus was on re-establishing our Forest School routines and encouraging the children to be kind and supportive friends. They have been fantastic. The Acorns team has witnessed a great deal of positive sharing, patience and kind words towards one another.

It was such a treat for me to spend time with them again. The children thoroughly enjoyed lots of free exploration. The mud was clearly a huge hit in all its forms — jumping in it, digging in it, creating mud slides and even enjoying the occasional “mud bath”!

Some of the children were very busy climbing trees and using the tyre swing, while others worked hard to improve the den that Big Acorns had previously started. We also enjoyed sharing hot chocolate and a snack together, which was a lovely way to end our sessions.

A huge thank you to Gemma and Adam for her help last term, and to all the parents who were so willing to step in when we needed a temporary helper. We are truly grateful for your continued support.

Kind regards,

Mrs Lefebvre
