At Buckland School, our four mixed-age classes – Acorns, Beech, Sycamore, and Oak – each include two year groups. This structure allows pupils to remain with the same teacher for two years, giving time for strong relationships to develop and enabling staff to gain a deep understanding of each child’s strengths and areas for development. Older pupils are encouraged to support and guide their younger peers, taking on the role of positive role models – a responsibility they embrace with confidence. High expectations are consistently promoted, and opportunities to explain and discuss learning help to deepen understanding. Activities are carefully scaffolded to meet the varying needs, abilities and year groups within each class.
