Dear Parents and Carers,
As we have been learning about minibeasts in class this term, Big Acorns have had lots of opportunities to observe them during Forest School. We found spiders, centipedes, lots of ants, woodlice, and even a few snails!
The children have also loved playing with sticks, climbing trees, and building dens.
Please take a look at the pictures below to see some of the fun we’ve been having.
A huge thank you to Hayley for her help and support this term. Term 6 is always a busy one in school and in Acorns, with events like Sports Day, Move-Up Morning, visits from our future Little Acorns, and of course, our performance!
Our final Forest School session will take place on Wednesday 12th June, and both Little and Big Acorns will be going together. So please make sure all children have their Forest School kits on that day.
Many thanks once again for your continued support.
Mrs Lefebvre
Dear Big Acorns Parents,
I just wanted to share a few words about Big Acorns' first Forest School session.
We had an amazing morning last Thursday! After reminding the children of a few safety rules and singing our Forest School song, we all enjoyed exploring the school allotment. The children chose their own activities—some decided to build a den and wooden monkey bars, while others preferred going on a bug hunt. Everyone had a go on the tyre swing or tried climbing the tree.
We were blessed with beautiful sunshine, which made the morning even more special. Just before the end, we all gathered on the logs to enjoy our snack and some hot chocolate together.
Next week, we’ll be learning (or reviewing) how to walk safely around our pretend campfire.
A big thank you to Hayley for being our Forest School helper this term!

Last week's session at Forest School was really special and precious. Before joining the allotment as usual, we went to the pond and saw some frogspawn. We used a net to carefully place some in a little bowl so the children could observe them up close. We were very careful not to harm them.
The children were respectful of the frogs and other creatures living in the pond habitat. They avoided touching the water to prevent any disturbance and used their quiet voices so as not to scare the frogs. Unfortunately, the sun wasn’t out, so most of the frogs were hiding.
The children were amazed and surprised by the jelly-like texture surrounding the eggs. We learned that this substance nourishes the eggs as they grow into beautiful tadpoles, then froglets, and eventually frogs.
We hope to return soon to see how our tadpoles and frogs are doing.
Have a lovely weekend!

I am Carotte and I can't wait to go to Forest School with Acorns !

Welcome to the Allotment!
On Thursday, for their first session, Little Acorns were very lucky to be greeted by fantastic sunshine. They met "Carotte," our Forest School mascot, and I think Carotte has already charmed them (as she always does!). The adults were really impressed by the youngest children of Buckland. They were a bit shy (which is always the case during our first session), but they were fantastic explorers. They quickly and independently got changed, but most importantly, they were kind and supportive of each other. They worked together to build an obstacle course or added water to make sticky mud in the mud hole. They took turn to jump on it ! We are so proud of them.
As we did this week, the focus next week will be to continue discovering the allotment. We may also learn how to walk around and avoid crossing the fire area. If it’s still too early to have a fire, we are already training ourselves by using our pretend fire.
A big thank you to Nesta for being our Forest School helper this term.
I also wanted to make you aware that Little Acorns won’t be attending Forest School on Thursday, March 27th, due to Acorns Assembly.
Please have a look at the pictures below – they speak volumes!
Have a lovely Weekend.
Mrs Lefevbre.
