Oak class had a fantastic trip to the Ashmolean Museum, building on their knowledge of Ancient Greece.
The day began with an exploration of a detailed model of the Acropolis, allowing students to discover the intricacies of Greek architecture and how these iconic buildings were designed.
Next, the class admired a range of statues, gaining insight into the figures the Ancient Greeks most revered. They discussed who these figures were and why they held such importance in Greek culture.
After a short break, Oak Class had the opportunity to handle original Ancient Greek artefacts. This hands-on activity helped them understand the materials and techniques used by ancient craftspeople.
The class then split into pairs or small groups to explore the gallery further, hunting for objects that shed light on different aspects of Greek life. They came face-to-face with depictions of heroes, gods, and goddesses on coins and pottery.
To finish off the visit, the class took time in the afternoon to sketch their favourite statues from the Ancient Greek world.
Hopefully, the class have left with a deeper appreciation for Ancient Greek history and culture!
