Church of England Primary School

Small school, big hearts. Wise, Responsible and Kind like the Good Samaritan.

We have had a super science week in Sycamore class. On Tuesday afternoon, the children watched 'The Science of Magic' - a show led by Science Oxford. It certainly tested their observational skills - the teacher performed some amazing magic tricks - the children had to think carefully about what the science behind the tricks could be. Lots of creative thinking and engaging discussion. Furthermore, as the theme for this year's science week was engineering, Sycamore have been investigating how bridges are built, thinking about materials and shape. Working in groups, they planned their own bridges that had to fulfill specific design criteria - they had to be at least 20 cm high and 50 cm long; they could only be constructed out of certain materials and had to carry the weight of 2 toy cars. The children worked so well together - communicating, involving each other, compromising and celebrating other's acheivements. We have also had a presentation from Gethyn about a volcano he has made - he did a super job of showing an eruption created by vinegar, bicarbonate of soda and food colouring - very exciting!
