Buckland

Church of England Primary School

Small school, big hearts. Wise, Responsible and Kind like the Good Samaritan.

The children had a good night sleep - some of the children did need waking close to breakfast time. Clearly, the activities from the previous day had worn them out. Staff are doing a fantastic job in supporting the children throughout the day. Its a long day and I know you appreciate the extra hours they are doing in order for Oak to experience a fantastic week away.

As well as staff supporting the children, we have a lot of great role models in Oak looking out for children who need that extra boost and encouragement. They make a great team.

3 groups all doing different things today: caving, mountain walking and canoeing.

My group went caving today. Despite some apprehension, all the children did every challenge presented. One of these challenges included the children turning their torch off and sitting in complete darkness for 2 minutes. We managed to crawl through many different parts with caution and determination.  Hopefully the pictures show you the enjoyment inside the cave. The walk to and from the cave provided some stunning views.

Canoeing was a great success. The instructor was very impressed with the group. They paddled 2 miles on the water. Some of the children attempted paddleboarding like yesterday's group. A challenge was presented to some of the children - can you go from one canoe to the other without falling in?! A lot of children loved it and had a go! Luckily, no-one fell in!

Mountain walking was an awesome success for the third group. The sky was blue, the sun was out and snow was still around. A lot of fun in the snow. A couple of children got very wet but saw the positive side of it. A super day from that group.

The weather last night changed after I had written yesterday's review so we will be hopefully star gazing on a nearby hill tonight instead. Yesterday, we did a different form of orienteering on the grounds of Woodlands compared to Monday evening.

We are already past half way on our residential. Less than 48 hours to go before you will get to see your loved ones!
